JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining safety at the Roeland Park Aquatic Center. Lifeguards assist distressed swimmers, correct infractions of pool rules and regulations of pool patrons and provide first aid to pool patrons in need. Lifeguard staff is required to attend regular training throughout pool season. All Aquatic Center staff assists with facility cleaning daily, pre-season and post season. Lifeguards will complete lifeguard certification course conducted by the Parks and Recreation Superintendent under CDC recommended first responder guidelines.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to meet or exceed the American Red Cross Lifeguard (including Deep Water) Pre-Requisites.
Ability to retrieve a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of the Roeland Park Aquatic Center dive well.
Knowledge of and ability to complete basic cleaning and organizing tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The applicant must pass a background check and drug test.
The applicant must hold a valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate (including Deep Water) or have the ability to obtain the certification prior to starting. The City of Roeland Park is able to assist with finding and paying for a appropriate class following the interview process.
Must be at least 15 years of age.

Physical Requirements:
Tasks involve frequent walking, standing; some lifting and carrying objects of moderate weight (25-50 lbs.); and the operation of office equipment and hand tools in which manipulative skills and hand‑eye coordination are important ingredients of safe and/or productive operations.
Environmental Requirements:
Tasks may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as inclement weather, heat, and extreme cold.
Sensory Requirements:
Tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Task requires oral communications ability.
