Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Assistant Head for Teaching & Learning in Lower School, the Lower School Teacher will plan, develop, and implement an effective instructional program to maintain a classroom environment that supports each student’s social, emotional, and cognitive growth and development in accordance with the policies and philosophy of The Lamplighter School. The Lower School Teacher will also collaborate with colleagues while maintaining a positive team attitude.
Job Responsibilities
Plan, develop, and implement curriculum for use in the classroom
Revise and modify curriculum accordingly throughout the year, as necessary
Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served
Cultivate effective professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
Create positive educational climate for students
Attend all required school meetings and public-relations events, including participate in school committees and extracurricular activities as required
Engage in professional development to stay abreast of current topics in education
Fulfill expectations for report writing and assessment of student work and progress
Understand and support The Lamplighter School commitment to diversity and inclusion
Perform all other related duties as assigned
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
Knowledge and experience teaching ages 6 - 10 years
Experience in designing curriculum (Literacy, Mathematics, and Social Studies)
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of teaching practices and a commitment to teaching within a caring, highly academic environment
Knowledge in teaching mathematics and/or literacy
Strong organizational skills
Knowledge of current trends and research in early childhood learning
Willingness to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Familiar with current effective/research-based strategies for using technology
