Controls Technician II (Level 2 DDC Controls Technician)

The Level 2 DDC Controls Technician is an intermediate role responsible for installing, checkout, and troubleshooting Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems. Building on experience as a Level 1 Technician, this position requires strong technical skills, the ability to work independently on routine tasks, and active contribution to commissioning and service work. The Level 2 Technician ensures that DDC systems are installed to specification, function properly, and support project success while providing a high level of customer service.
Responsibilities
Independently install DDC control panels, field devices, sensors, actuators, and wiring according to engineered drawings and specifications.
Perform point‑to‑point checkout of installed devices and verify system functionality.
Support commissioning efforts by testing and validating control sequences under supervision of senior staff.
Ensure job sites are organized, safe, and compliant with company and OSHA standards.
Mentor Level 1 Technicians, assisting with training and knowledge development.
Troubleshooting & Support
Diagnose and correct common issues with wiring, devices, and communication networks.
Assist senior technicians and programmers in resolving system performance issues.
Use meters, diagnostic tools, and basic software applications to verify system operation.
Provide customer‑facing support during service calls or system startup.
Documentation & Reporting
Update and maintain accurate as‑built documentation, including redline drawings.
Submit progress reports, installation checklists, and material usage logs.
Provide feedback on field conditions and potential design or installation improvements.
Collaboration & Development
Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Senior Technicians to ensure project goals are met.
Participate in manufacturer and internal training programs to expand technical expertise.
Develop foundational knowledge of control sequences, system programming, and integration with HVAC equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or valid experience in lieu of diploma.
Minimum of 2+ years experience in HVAC controls, electrical, or building automation installation.
Current and valid State Driver’s License.
Additional Qualifications
Strong knowledge of low‑voltage electrical systems, control wiring, and device installation.
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and specifications.
Hands‑on experience with point‑to‑point checkout and basic system startup.
Familiarity with building automation system software (Niagara, Tridium, or equivalent) preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school, apprenticeship, or Associate’s degree preferred but work experience will be considered.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in construction and mechanical environments.
