General Support Maintenance Worker – Beaufort County

The purpose of this position is to perform ground keeping and basic custodial work in the assigned functional area. Employees are responsible for accomplishing a daily routine of general and preventative maintenance tasks that provide employees and the general public with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient area. This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Essential Functions
Assist in property maintenance by removing roadside trash and illegal dump sites.
Transport litter to landfills and recyclables to materials recovery facilities.
Perform basic lawn care and landscaping tasks; general installations and repairs to irrigation systems; trim trees and hedges.
Perform custodial tasks, i.e., emptying and cleaning waste receptacles; washing windows; dusting furniture; cleaning vents, fans, walls.
Respond to emergency situations to contain, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., fallen debris, spills, broken windows, broken locks.
Clean equipment and tools after use and maintain cleanliness and order in storage areas.
Report equipment malfunctions and facility maintenance needs to immediate supervisor.
Perform general maintenance work, i.e., changing light bulbs, cleaning air filters, repairing towel dispensers, filling paper and soap dispensers, painting.
Operate various lawn and general maintenance equipment, i.e., lawn mowers, tractor, edger, bob cat, pressure cleaners, blowers.
Stock supplies as necessary; maintain inventory of all supplies required.
Participate in the set-up and removal of tables, chairs, stages, etc. for daily meetings and classes.
Inspect work upon completion to ensure conformance to prescribed standards and environmental safety.
Perform related work as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
High School graduation or GED equivalent.
Short demonstration up to and including one month of related experience.
Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation. Beaufort County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
