Forklift Service Technician in Cookeville, TN
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Inspection: Perform routine preventative maintenance (PM), such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication. Conduct safety inspections to ensure equipment meets OSHA and manufacturer standards.
Diagnostics: Identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using computerized diagnostic tools, hand tools, and technical manuals.
System Repairs: Repair or overhaul complex systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, power steering, and hydraulic lift mechanisms.
Electrical Work: Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC electrical systems, battery charging units, and computerized control panels.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate service records, complete work orders, and manage a basic inventory of spare parts.
Field Service: Travel to client sites to perform on-site emergency repairs requiring strong customer service skills.
Requirements & Skills
Education: High school diploma or GED; a degree or certificate in automotive or heavy equipment technology is preferred.
Experience: Seeking 2–4 (or more) years of experience in forklift, automotive, or heavy equipment repair.
Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in reading electrical and hydraulic schematics.
Certifications: A valid driver's license is mandatory; forklift operator certification and manufacturer-specific training (e.g., Toyota, Hyster, Crown) are highly valued.
Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50–75 lbs, work in confined spaces, and stand or bend for long periods.
Tools: Mechanics are typically required to provide their own set of hand tools.
