We encourage you to consider joining NCDOT where our work not only serves the citizens of North Carolina but has an impact on our world through all modes of transportation.**Description of Work**This posting is for an Electronics Technician I position that will report to the New Hanover Traffic Services Office located in Castle Hayne, NC. This position will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and 24-hour emergency repair of electrical, electronic, and computerized traffic control systems. The duties to be performed include safe operation of aerial lift vehicle in live traffic, installing traffic signal equipment, wiring detectors, installing and wiring controllers, tracing out electrical wiring diagrams to locate trouble, dismantling and reassembling components, and replacing worn or faulty parts. Work will be performed without constant supervision and will be evaluated by a supervisor for efficient use of time and proper operation of traffic control systems repaired and maintained. Skills of this position include general knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the safe and efficient use of tools, materials and test equipment used in the electrical/electronic trade, ability to diagnose source of equipment failures, ability to repair/maintain a wide variety of complex electrical equipment. Position is subject to overtime work when necessary, as well as emergency callback. The Electronics Technician I is expected to maintain proper records of all signal work accomplished and keep an accurate record of time worked and all materials used via computer. The position will be exposed to extreme weather conditions and a high volume of moving traffic.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences**Salary Grade and Salary Range:

NC09 / $39,671 - $69,426**Management prefers applicants with the following:*** Knowledge of standard test equipment used to diagnose electronic components.* Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.* Knowledge of the National Electric Code.* Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and carry out work assignments effectively, with minimal technical supervision.* Experience performing manual and physical labor in varied environmental conditions.**Additional Expectations:**Employee must be able to lift up to 80 pounds, shoulder high. Must be able to use and operate aerial bucket truck up to 60 feet in height. Must be able to perform assigned tasks, understand and follow both oral and written instructions, and comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safer work environment. The employee should have the ability to perform manual and physical labor involved in the installation and removal of traffic signals and other traffic control devices. Employee will be expected to work in environmental conditions which include extreme cold and excessive heat, exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic, and heavy construction.The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing will be required. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substance and alcohol testing.Safety-toed shoes required.**Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation**.**Minimum Education and Experience**Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
