Responsibilities

Perform decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment.

Inspect instruments and equipment to ensure safety of patients.

Operate and maintain decontamination equipment.

Separate and track cleaned and sterilized items, monitor expiration dates on supplies.

Maintain a clean work area following established policies, procedures and infection control standards.

Properly operate all mechanical machinery within central sterile.

De‑lint towels and sheets.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification in sterile processing.

Previous sterile processing experience.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Retrieve contaminated instruments and deliver sterile instruments.

Remove debris by manually cleaning instruments.

Inspect instruments and equipment to ensure the safety of our patients.

Test and report detected problems with all equipment.

Separate and keep track of items that have been cleaned and sterilized.

Remove all waste matter from transfer carts.

Organize, store, and keep records of sterile supplies.

Check expiration dates on supplies.

Maintain a clean work area following established departmental policies, procedures and infection control standards.

Properly operate all mechanical machinery within central sterile.

Apply established policies and procedures in completing work assignments.

Properly de‑lint towels and sheets.

Physical Requirements

Must meet Department of Labor’s MEDIUM duty standard (exerting up to 50 lbs occasionally, up to 20 lbs frequently, up to 10 lbs constantly).

Ability to bend, stoop, reach, rotate, stand and walk for an 8‑12 hour shift.

Capable of lifting up to 60 lbs and pushing loaded carts over 200 lbs.

Working Environment

Hazards include high pressure steam, chemicals, electrical, mechanical, bio‑waste, stress, back strain, body fluids, etc.

Environmental conditions may include variations in temperature, noise, odors, multi‑stimuli.

Will be working in PPE for extended periods.

Skills and Abilities

Work well in a fast‑paced, stressful environment as a team member.

Work under direction to effectively carry out varied responsibilities.

Demonstrate flexibility in response to changes in work volume, staff, and schedule.

Understand and adhere to Infection Control policies and procedures.

Plan, organize, and prioritize time to maximize personal efficiency and meet deadlines.

Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.

Additional Job Information Hours: 8 hrs x5, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Shift: Non‑Exempt. Location: 2500 Hospital Drive, Martinsburg, West Virginia.
