Electrical Apprentice

North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) provides vital wholesale water, wastewater and solid waste management services to more than two million people in North Texas. We are seeking a dedicated Electrical Apprentice to join our team and help keep our community’s essential services running safely and efficiently. Position Summary The Electrical Apprentice assists other electricians in diagnosing, repairing, installing, testing, and maintaining high, medium, and low voltage electrical equipment and both hard‑wired and wireless telecommunication systems. Responsibilities include work on systems up to 25,000 volts across multiple facilities. Work is performed under direct supervision.

Major Responsibilities

Assists electricians with the installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of low, medium, and high voltage wiring systems.

Supports the installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of motors, generators, fans, and other equipment.

Assists with overhead power distribution systems, power sub‑stations, variable frequency drives, and motor control centers.

Supports air conditioning, refrigerant systems, chillers, boilers, and lighting systems.

Demonstrates technical aptitude with low, medium, and high voltage circuits.

Applies NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and NLSC principles and practices.

Performs preventive and predictive maintenance; maintains tool, part, and inventory records.

Performs basic mathematical calculations.

Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, plans, and manufacturer specifications.

Operates man lifts, bucket trucks, and associated electrical maintenance equipment.

Learns and applies safety procedures and protocols.

Maintains a clean, organized work area.

Continuously improves skill levels.

Establishes effective working relationships.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to comprehend, carry out, and administer written and oral instruction.

Knowledge of basic electrical principles and concepts.

Normal visual color discrimination.

Strong willingness to learn and develop in the electrical trade.

Effective teamwork.

Physical ability to lift, climb, and work in confined spaces.

Willingness to work overtime and call outs.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Reliable attendance and punctuality across scheduled shifts.

Education and Experience

Valid Texas Driver’s License.

High school diploma or GED.

Must apply for and maintain a valid TDLR apprentice electrician license.

Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment This position requires continuous physical exertion, including lifts or pulls of 50 pounds daily and up to 100 pounds weekly. Exposure to high voltage, inclement weather, wastewater, mechanical, electrical, chemical, and confined space hazards is common. Work may involve climbing water tanks and towers, operating a company vehicle, and using hand and power tools. Part of duties may require working nights, weekends, holidays, on‑call, and rotating shifts.
