Responsibilities
Repair delivery equipment including tractors, trailers, bobtails and passenger vehicles or any piece of equipment used for the delivery and unloading of merchandise.
Perform duties by following the Company’s safety standards.
Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, drill press and jacks and hoists.
Raise trucks and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
Immediately communicate problems with Supervisor.
Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical problems.
Repair delivery equipment, tractors, trailers, bobtails and passenger vehicles or any piece of equipment used for the delivery and unloading of merchandise.
Document repairs.
Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment.
Adhere to Federal Motor Carrier Guidelines.
Qualifications
Must have Class “A” CDL and 3 or more years of diesel mechanic experience.
Working knowledge of brake systems both air and hydraulic and capable of performing all repairs.
Working knowledge of diesel engines and capable of performing all diesel repairs.
Normal use of shoulders, arms, wrist, hands, feet and legs.
All tools required to perform repairs.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical problems.
Ability to communicate with supervisors and shop associates.
Material handling equipment experience is a plus since a forklift is used on occasion.
Follow instructions and be a self‑starter.
Capable of working independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
Willing to work odd hours and shift work (nights).
Ability to walk extensively, stand for long periods of time usually for 8-10 hours, bend at the waist, stoop to reach and squat to lift heavy items, and operate lift assisting devices.
Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
Frequently required to sit, stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; occasionally required to climb or balance.
Must be able to lift 30-60 lbs. repetitively and heavier items weighing up to 100 lbs. occasionally and frequently push or pull three-hundred (300) pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
High school diploma or GED.
Driver safety is important to Ben E. Keith. We use dash cameras which leverage artificial intelligence to recognize safe driving, capture safety events and improve driver safety performance. The videos are also used to exonerate drivers in accidents. All drivers sign a driver consent form upon hire to confirm their understanding.
