Responsibilities

Reviews job folder for special instructions pertaining to any bindery and finishing requirements.

Primarily responsible for the set up and operation of one of the following pieces of equipment: inserter, folder, label affixer, stitcher, or trimmer; can operate most pieces of equipment in the bindery department.

Reports production problems and/or errors in order to identify possible changes in procedures to prevent re‑occurrence.

Ensures equipment maintenance is performed and reports any downtime that will affect production schedules and delivery commitments.

Operates all equipment using proper safety procedures; uses proper lifting techniques; ensures that carts and pallets are properly stowed and completes housekeeping on a routine basis.

Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.). Five years of related training and experience and demonstrated competency in the operation of a collator and some of the bindery machines noted above.

Language Skills

Ability to read correspondence, memos, technical procedures and follow job folder instructions.

Ability to effectively communicate, present information, and respond to questions from supervisors, customers and other employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems and draw conclusions.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with multiple variables.

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to prioritize daily work and projects.

Multiple operational skills and individual flexibility required to meet the needs of the business and customers.

Physical Demand

Must stand and walk for entire shift, reach with hands and arms, frequently stoop or kneel, crouch, and routinely lift up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

Noise level usually moderate; climate controlled, though may be cold or hot during weather events.
