Performs difficult and responsible administrative, legal and secretarial work in the office of the Commonwealth's Attorney. Work activities require confidentiality and familiarity with legal and technical terminology. Exercises considerable judgment and discretion in making decisions concerning the interpretation and application of work policies and procedures. Documents and maintains case details, arranges hearing dates, follow up on pending court dates, and maintains the office case filing system. Does related work as required.
Responsibilities
Prepare and organize case files
Draft various legal documents and correspondence
Prepare indictments, subpoenas, petitions, court forms, and other related legal material
Utilize a computer case management system
Maintain calendars; schedule appointments and court dates and follow up on pending court cases accurately
Review court records and databases of other agencies to gather necessary information
Greet the public and representatives of other agencies on behalf of the Commonwealth’s Attorney
Maintain strict confidentiality in all areas
Education
Required: Education equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by college level courses in office administration, law or related field.
Preferred: Associates Degree; paralegal certification.
Experience
Required: Considerable progressively responsible experience in administrative and office work.
Preferred: Experience in public service especially in legal areas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public
Thorough knowledge of legal and technical terminology and criminal proceedings, including typical communications and instruments used by court personnel
Some knowledge of rules, regulations and ordinances administered by the Department
Ability to gather information and interpret and implement policies and procedures
Ability to accurately compile data and records and implement effective controls
Skill in the use of computer software such as Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to perform work with reliability, integrity, tact and diplomacy
Ability to plan, schedule and organize work independently
Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions
Ability to make reasonable judgments and decisions
Ability to utilize a database management system
Ability to provide and maintain a customer service orientation
