Overview The Machinist will operate CNC lathes and mills in support of machining and other manufacturing process operations.
Primary Responsibilities / Essential Responsibilities
Machine operation involves loading and tending runs of parts, or performing one-step operations on individual parts
Positions and secures tools in holding device, machine tables, chuck, centers, and fixtures
Verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications
Reads blueprints, job orders, tooling instructions, and standard charts for specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions
Understands and performs all quality regulations, standards and policies, including ISO 9001:2015 and AAR M‑1003, following work procedures and ensuring highest level of quality
Indexes turret and adjusts positions of tools at each station in relation to work piece to assure clearance between moving parts and machining of specified dimensions and tolerances
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
Pressure tests parts according to drawing or work procedure
Performs housekeeping duties including 5S, coolant replacement, and TPM
Uses calipers, micrometers, and other miscellaneous gauges for simple inspection
Participates in defining strategies to meet quality objectives and in system reviews within the team
Qualifications / Requirements
High school diploma or GED
3+ years direct CNC experience or formal CNC training from an accredited program combined with 1+ years experience post training
Experience reading blueprints
Must be able to run CNC equipment in one cell, including: Change jaws
Change tools / touch off
Lad program
Runs first piece and makes adjustments based on quality inspection
Desired Characteristics, Competence and Capabilities
Proficient reading, writing, and computation skills
Good manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment
Prior experience with multi‑axis CNC equipment highly desirable
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions
Continuously standing, repetitively grasping, and using fine manipulation with the hands; may walk, bend, squat, twist, push or pull; must lift 10–20 lb frequently and up to 50 lb occasionally with assistance
Exposed to loud machinery, cold and hot temperatures, chemicals and vapors; may occasionally work in an office environment
Uses bench‑type or floor‑mounted machines (drill press, grinders, broaches, screw machines, manual and CNC mills and lathes, saws, shrink‑wrap machines, etc.) and hand and power tools, measuring instruments, hoist, lifts, and lift trucks
Work Arrangement Onsite
Pay Range $25.75 – $38.00 per hour
