Job Summary
CNC Vertical Mill operators use computer-controlled machines to fabricate parts from metal or plastic. The role involves programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine while maintaining quality and safety standards for custom parts for ACMF customers.
Essential Job Functions
Program the Vertical Mill by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches.
Calculate requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; prove part programs.
Set up the Vertical Mill by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicate vices; tramming heads.
Load the feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
Verify settings by measuring positions, first‑run part, and sample work pieces; perform test operations to ensure the product is made to specifications.
Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; conduct measurements; detect malfunctions; troubleshoot processes; adjust and reprogram controls; sharpen and replace worn tools; adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Maintain safe operations by following safety procedures and regulations.
Run the machine and monitor it for problems.
Make adjustments to operating speed based on vibrations and sounds that may indicate a malfunction.
Inspect any material from waterjet, laser, saw, and/or weldments.
Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task.
Perform all dimensional inspections.
Operate multiple machines.
Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; follow manufacturer instructions; troubleshoot malfunctions; call for repairs.
Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
Perform prescribed maintenance as required; clean and maintain equipment.
Operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely.
