Description:
CNC Lathe Setup Operator
Job Purpose:
Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintains quality and safety standards; keeps records; and maintains equipment and supplies.
Responsibilities
Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, and machining parameters; interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
Set up lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; set tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculate requirements and prove part programs.
Train and educate other CNC machinists.
Install and adjust three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; load feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces; adhere to international standards.
Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; take measurements; detect malfunctions; troubleshoot processes; adjust and reprogram controls; sharpen and replace worn tools; follow quality assurance procedures and processes.
Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance, following manufacturer instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs.
Ensure continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs; complete production and quality logs.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
Accomplish organization goals by accepting ownership for new requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
