The Group Fitness Instructor performs a wide variety of tasks which directly relate to the safety, well‑being, and instruction of participants and indirect responsibilities and other duties, as assigned to insure a positive public relations image and proper facility and park appearance.
Hours: Evenings; Varies
Date Range: January 2026 – December 2026; Potential to be extended
Type of instructors needed but not limited to: Yoga Dance High‑Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Pilates Tai Chi Prenatal Trampoline
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS: Supervision, instruction, and constant surveillance of program participants and patrons during instructional sessions; Be punctual and attend all class sessions; Reporting to work fifteen (15) minutes prior to scheduled start time; Ensure class space readiness prior to and after class sessions; Relate problem situations to the Adult and Senior Program Coordinator; Advance preparation, planning for classes, and materials necessary to ensure quality instruction; Proper care of instructional aides (free weights, barbells, step platforms, etc.); Knowledge of the practices and procedures in relation to the exercises and movements taught; Act in a professional manner at all times; Attend staff meetings and trainings as required; Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Pursue job responsibilities in a professional and mature manner, through the use of instructional skills to ensure the quality of group fitness. To encourage learning, demonstrate necessary skills, and provide a courteous program.
The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with guests, co-workers and facility management in a positive manner. Willingness to promote the Shaker Heights Recreation Department and its related programs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum age of 18 years old Current certification in Group Fitness Exercise, preferred Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED (required within first 30 days of hire) Previous Group Fitness Instruction experience, preferred
