Northwest Suburban Municipal Joint Action Water Agency, Water Operator- Night Sh

The Northwest Suburban Municipal Joint Action Water Agency (NSMJAWA), a governmental organization, is seeking to fill a full-time, non-exempt, night-shift Water Operator position at the O’Hare Airport Main Pumping Station. The primary responsibility of this position is to operate and manage pumps and control equipment during a 12-hour night shift to supply water to seven (7) northwest suburban Chicago communities. Additional duties include performing routine general maintenance, custodial tasks, and responding to emergency situations as needed. Works under the general supervision of the Operations Manager but is often required to work independently. The position requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. and one (1) to three (3) years of experience in water or wastewater operations, industrial/manufacturing operations, or equivalent. A combination of water or wastewater experience with HVAC, electrical, or mechanical maintenance experience will also be considered. Knowledge of water chemistry, PLCs, or SCADA systems is a plus. A valid State of Illinois or equivalent driver’s license is required. Possession of an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) Class “C” or higher Public Water Supply Operator’s License is required. For continued employment, a newly appointed employee must obtain the IEPA Class “C” license within two (2) years of the appointment date. The non-exempt Water Operator position is for night shift, 7 PM – 7 AM, with a 36-hour work week followed by a 48-hour work week. The starting hourly wage is dependent on qualifications and ranges from $31.82 to $38.39 per hour. In addition, the night-shift Water Operator receives a premium pay of $1.50 per hour and eight (8) hours of overtime each bi-weekly pay period.
