Zone Mechanic – Full Time

Job Description The Zone Mechanic will focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across all systems. Candidates are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, central utility plant operations) and be multi‑skilled in other areas to complete daily and weekly work assignments. The Zone Mechanic assists and serves as a back‑up to other Facilities employees.
Department & Details Plant Maintenance – 208061 Worker Sub‑Type: Regular Pay Grade: 110
Education High school diploma or GED required.
Experience Three to five years of general commercial maintenance experience working in at least one relevant trade within a commercial, industrial, facilities operations, or healthcare setting. Must include knowledge and skills in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, boilers, or HVAC systems. Residential‑only experience is insufficient.
Certification & Licenses Certification as a Journeyman, Apprentice, or in a commercial building‑specific trade (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical, BAS). Must have a valid driver’s license (age over 21, less than 4 points).
Qualifications
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Good problem‑solving skills, ability to prioritize work, and work independently.
Knowledge of commercial building automation systems (BAS) preferred.
Knowledge of standard practices and procedures of construction trades (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting, mechanical systems).
General computer knowledge, preferably Microsoft Windows.
Read and comprehend plans and blueprints preferred.
Hospitals operate 24/7; willingness to work overtime and off‑hours for emergencies.
Ability to operate and use a broad spectrum of tools and equipment safely.
