The Technician 2, HVAC/Refrigeration is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems/equipment. This role ensures these systems meet the stringent requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing and storage environments. Additionally, this role is responsible for conducting regular inspections and preventative maintenance on HVAC/R systems to ensure they are operating within the required specifications.

What You’ll Do
Perform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance of the site’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment with limited supervision
Report complex HVAC issues to senior technicians, management, or plant engineering
Oversee the installation of equipment, as required
Lead small projects related to HVAC systems and cold rooms
Provide recommendations to management to develop HVAC maintenance schedules
Mentor or provide training to HVAC technicians
Provide input to develop maintenance and repair plans for HVAC systems and equipment, including cold rooms
Follow all safety protocols and guidelines
Routinely test and certify HEPA filters to prescribed schedule
Assist with maintaining contracts with external vendors, as needed
Conduct work adhering to system air balancing activities under the guidance of senior technicians or management
Assist site functions to qualify and maintain production ventilation and equipment
Interact with vendors or other departments, contractors, and disciplines to schedule repairs, maintenance, etc.
Complete specialized training programs for HVAC systems
Work with Building Management Systems (BMS) monitoring program to trend and review specific data relating to HVAC systems
Collaborate cross-functionally with Utilities, Plant Engineering, and other support groups
Assist with revising and developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), as needed
Support site operations and emergency work orders during off‑hours, as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and building automation systems
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Knowledge of regulations and codes for HVAC work
Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics
Effective communication, both written and oral
Ability to lift and move heavy equipment
Knowledge of system air balancing activities required for clean room environments and pressure cascades
Must support a 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shift, on‑call, and weekends
Required Skills and Certifications
High School Diploma/GED
2‑4 years of experience in HVAC maintenance and repairs
Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational training in HVAC
Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification (EPA 608 Certification)
Preferred Skills and Certifications
Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, applied engineering or another relevant field
Prior experience with industrial HVAC systems
Prior experience working in a GMP manufacturing environment
Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or equivalent work order management experience
Experience with troubleshooting and repairing refrigerant systems, and testing and certifying HEPA filters
HVAC/Refrigeration Certification
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Work may necessitate respiratory protection
May require hearing protection and enrollment in a hearing conservation program in mechanical/production spaces
Operate motor vehicle or powered industrial truck
Discern audible cues
Perform tasks with 20/20 corrected vision, visual acuity, including distinguishing color
Ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc.
Stand for prolonged periods up to 12 hours
Sit for prolonged periods up to 12 hours
Use repetitive motions involving wrists, hands and/or fingers
Move objects up to 33 lbs
Bend, push or pull, reach to retrieve materials from 18” to 60” in height, using twisting motions
Work in environments 0–110 °F
Work in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind
Work in small and/or enclosed spaces
Work in heights greater than 4 feet
