Grind Machinist

Grind Machinist Phoenix, AZ Grind Machinist

Defense & Aerospace Machine Shop

ID / OD Grind

Operates grinding machines to assemble products and produce parts to established blueprint and engineering specifications. Manual and CNC grinders.

Machines used are Heald ID, Toyoda OD manual and CNC, Okamoto CNC ID and OD, Kellenberger CNC, honing, surface and centerless grinding. Heald experience a plus.

Grind MachinistDuties / Responsibilities

Grinds and blends steel to prepare for paint or powder

Selects, mounts, attaches and calibrates a variety of attachments to grind angles, contours, lines, spheres, etc. onto surfaces

Complete all required paperwork properly – inspection reports, spc, job travelers, etc.

Work in tolerances of .0002-.0005

Able to work independently and stay on task – operate 2 machines regularly

Ability to problem solve and communicate process improvement suggestions with management

Grind MachinistRequired Skills / Abilities

Familiarity with Okuma and Kellenberger Grinders, Heald a plus

Proficient with standard types of inspection equipment – Indicating Micrometers, Bore Gages, Sunnen Gage, Test Indicators

Experience in grinding holding tolerances preferred

Strong attention to detail, quality-focused, and willing to learn

General knowledge of operating hand tools, portable power tools, and bench tools

Ability to read and interpret written information and follow directions

Grind MachinistEducation / Experience

High School or GED

CNC experience preferred but not required

5+ years ID/OD grinding experience preferred, but will train lathe or mill machinist looking to grow in one of the most complete grind departments in the valley
