Position Overview The Slitter Operator is a key member of the EDCOAT Production team. This full-time non-exempt position is based in New Carlisle, IN and reports to the Production Manager. It is a Day/Night position with normal working hours of 4:00am–4:00pm or 4:00pm–4:00am. The operator slits coils and performs other coil processing tasks on the slitting line for use throughout the plant and for customers. As a member of the production team, the operator must comply with all applicable company standards and government regulations. Success is defined by the ability to run the slitter machine efficiently.

Responsibilities

Check in and record details of coils prior to the slitting process.

Load, unload, upend, move, and remove coils involved in the slitting process using crane, forklift, coil car, or coil tipper.

Visually and manually verify accuracy of coil size, weight, gauge, etc. before slitting.

Set up slitter machine heads and arbors and adjust as needed according to customer expectations.

Operate the slitting machine at established production rates and equipment utilization rates based on customer and product specifications.

Inspect material for defects and report problems to Shipping, Paintline, or Quality Control Supervisor.

Maintain accurate records of slitter machine materials and inventory on the slitter machine checklist.

Record coil weights and numbers accurately during the slitting process.

Other duties as assigned.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Multi-task in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.

Qualifications

Able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.

1–3 years of previous manufacturing experience.

Preferred: forklift and/or overhead crane experience.

Physical Demands The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

Lift (from floor to waist level), push, and pull 50 pounds from floor.

Stand and walk for extended periods on concrete surfaces with regular stooping, bending, or sitting.

Work a 2‑2‑3 shift schedule: 4am‑4pm (Days) and 4pm‑4am (Nights). The schedule follows a 14‑day repetitive cycle with 12‑hour shifts: 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off.

Must be able to work overtime as needed.
