Job Requirements / Competencies
Vocational education; high school, commercial or shop training; or technical school
In‑house training, organized study provided by an employer
On‑the‑job training under the instruction of a qualified worker
Valid driver’s license / identification
Ability to read and write in English
Ability to provide verifiable references of past work experience
Essential Job Functions
Display and encourage teamwork among employees and customers
Maintain positive working relationships with all employees and clients
Actively participate in the company WISE program
Act as a mentor per company Mentoring and SSE programs
Communicate effectively with peers, clients, and members of management
Promote the company in a positive light, both inside and outside of the workplace
Operate a company‑owned vehicle and heavy machinery
Repair and maintain gasoline, electric, and diesel vehicles and equipment in and around port facilities, including forklifts, aerial lifts, automobiles, and mobile cranes
Examine vehicle or equipment and determine the nature of damage or malfunction
Plan work procedures using charts, technical manuals, and experience
Determine required parts for repair
Possess knowledge of electrical, fuel, hydraulic, pneumatic, brake, and other mechanical and automotive systems
Lubricate moving parts and operate or test vehicle to verify conformance to specifications
Perform all AM and PM maintenance on all vehicles and motorized equipment in and around the port facility
Change oil, check/replace batteries, repair/change tires, tubes, and lubricate equipment and machinery
Repair metal components such as exhaust systems, chassis repair, and structural repair
Examine protective guards, nuts and bolts, and specified safety devices and make adjustments as required
Remove, dismantle, and rebuild engine, transmission, clutch, rear end, and other components of drivetrains
Assist in keeping the maintenance shop clean and in good working order
