The Machinist Technician II performs machine operation and assembly in a job shop or high-volume applications. Processes components to meet print and/or geometric tolerance requirements. Responsible for the setup, operation and maintenance of production machinery, maintenance of proper documentation and support of the manufacturing engineering function.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Primary Responsibilities

Under general supervision, completes tasks as directed by SOPs, routers, prints, work instructions, and manufacturing schedules.

Operates machining equipment under close supervision and learns machining and metal removal concepts which include milling, turning, grinding, and other methods.

Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work pieces to specifications using measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers.

Adheres to dimensions and tolerances found on prints. May use prints and sketches to determine proper methods and processes.

Learn the process of maintaining machine maintenance files.

Rework production parts and perform emergency rework and/or modification of production parts as directed.

Perform in-process checks using measuring devices and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department lead person or supervisor.

Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.

Work on projects as part of a team, exchanging ideas and contributing skills that complement those of the other team members. Fulfill commitments to team members.

Perform assembly, deburring, and other duties as required.

May perform setup of manual machines and perform tool offset changes on CNC machines.

Perform basic machine set‑up.

Perform basic selection and care of special machine tools such as drills, jigs, mills, lathes, and fixtures.

Diagnose basic machine problems using proper diagnostic tools.

Learn the maintenance of CNC program files.

Maintain machine maintenance files.

Modify basic existing processes if necessary.

Inspect basic prototypes, machine prototypes, fixtures and first‑article components.

May perform programming and operation of FOBA lasers.

Communicate verbally, written, and interpersonally to work with others.

Train others.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

Manufacturing experience preferred.

2 to 5 years of related experience with trade school certification preferred where applicable.

Full knowledge of machinist role and substantial acquaintance with and understanding of the machining of routine parts.

Position will use machining and metal removal equipment which may include milling, turning, grinding and other methods and measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers. Ability to utilize a desktop computer with typical business programs installed.

Salary Pay Range $22.79 - $30.77 USD Hourly

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by several factors including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for bonus, commission, equity or other variable compensation.
