Vatn Systems
Director of Manufacturing at Vatn Systems
At Vatn Systems, we specialize in designing and manufacturing advanced Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) that push the boundaries of underwater exploration and defense technology. Our AUVs utilize complex electro-mechanical systems, high-precision sensors, and cutting‑edge software to operate in challenging marine environments. We are expanding our in‑house machining capability to support rapid development and early production programs. We are seeking a CNC Machinist to play a key role in producing precision components and supporting the transition of hardware from R&D into repeatable manufacturing. Role Description
As a CNC Machinist at Vatn Systems, you will be responsible for programming, setting up, and machining complex components in support of both fast‑paced R&D programs and high‑rate production efforts. This role requires a highly experienced, self‑directed machinist capable of meeting tight tolerances and aggressive schedules with minimal oversight. In this role you will work as part of a growing manufacturing team and contribute to the ongoing development of machining standards, tooling strategies, and CAM practices while maintaining a strong focus on execution. Primary Responsibilities
Own the end‑to‑end machining of assigned components, from CAM programming through finished part Program, set up, and operate CNC milling, turning, and mill‑turn equipment Develop machining processes that meet defined engineering requirements and tolerances Select, test, and qualify cutting tools and machining strategies Support fast turn around machining for R&D programs and design iterations Perform deburring, cleanup, and routine shop tasks as required Contribute to continuous improvement of machining practices and standards Required Qualifications
10+ years of professional CNC machining experience Demonstrated ability to independently machine new parts from engineering drawings Experience holding tight tolerances (±0.001" and tighter) Proficiency in CAM programming Experience machining aluminum and harder materials such as stainless steel or titanium Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑paced, high‑accountability environment Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality Preferred Qualifications
