Shipfitter – (Fabrication Shop)
(THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC)
Shifts: 1st and 2nd (10-hour shifts), with overtime available on Fridays and Saturdays
Pay Range: $35–$40 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Per Diem: $140 per day
Position Overview A leading defense contractor is seeking experienced Shipfitters to join its fabrication team supporting high-impact naval construction projects. This role is ideal for professionals with at least 5 years of experience in shipfitting or the welding/fabrication industry. You’ll be responsible for precision layout, fitting, and assembly of prefabricated components, as well as machining and welding preparation for advanced naval vessels.
Key Responsibilities
Lay out, fit, align, and assemble cast and forged components prior to welding, soldering, brazing, or bonding
Perform machining operations such as straightening, grinding, burring, drilling, reaming, and countersinking to close tolerances
Select equipment and materials based on general instructions and job specifications
Set up and prepare materials for welding, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up
Repair or rework parts distorted by welding to restore required tolerances
Monitor and verify product quality using statistical process control or other inspection procedures
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols
Collaborate with welders, engineers, and supervisors to meet production goals
Maintain safety standards and adhere to all OSHA and company protocols
Compliance & Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Must pass a lifelong bg check
Must pass a hair follicle drug test
Hiring based on resume
Work Environment
This is a large fabrication shop setting, not a shipyard environment
Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Goose Creek, SC.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.08 – $44.18/hr.
