Essential Position Responsibilities
Assist in equipment repair and preventative maintenance procedures and the operation of the facility refrigeration equipment where employed. May include other process equipment assigned to the department. Repairs, replaces, corrects and operates the refrigeration equipment as needed to ensure it runs correctly and efficiently according to production requirements. Consults with engineers and vendors as required and completes layout work for each project. Demonstrates troubleshooting capability and meets all safety requirements while complying with Simmons PSM programs and various government regulations concerning safety, environment, vehicle handling of food products, packaging, ingredients and related items. Qualifies as a member of the plant HAZMAT team and participates in the team’s development, communication and implementation of concepts, programs and policies. Coordinates work to ensure best practices, attends appropriate meetings, fosters cohesiveness, identifies areas lacking cohesion, and works with the team leader to resolve issues and strengthen synergy within the larger organization. Familiar with Simmons operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN) and responsible for maintaining familiarity, communicating concerns and improvement ideas. Performs other duties as necessary to support business objectives. This position description is intended to guide activities and encourages creativity; it does not limit or cover all possible work.
Physical Activities and Work Conditions
Enters and locates information on a computer, visually verifies information (often in small print) and must manually lift up to 50 pounds. Works in extreme temperatures, on feet for an entire shift, and in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, dirty areas with noise levels above 90 decibels.
Travel
Not applicable.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Uses appropriate footwear, hearing protection and other protective equipment as needed or required. All PPE equipment required by the HAZMAT team must be used.
Technical Experience
Experience or vocational training in electrical, electronic, PLC and mechanical repair, hydraulics; and completion of and passing of Ammonia Refrigeration Operator I class.
Industry Experience
Preference for experience in poultry or food‑processing organization maintenance and refrigeration.
Education
Minimum: good command of the English language, both written and spoken. Preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications
Refrigeration Operator I and II experience, PSM training, and communication skills & decision quality. Must make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and the leadership team.
