Director, Finance & Human Resources
to be based in Lewiston, Maine. The DFHR directs the firm's financial planning, reporting, and accounting practices, as well as its relationships with lending institutions, shareholders, and the financial community. The DFHR is responsible for overseeing the firm's Accounting, IT, Facilities, and Service departments. The DFHR also acts as a strategic and operational leader for HR operations and advancing the firm's people strategy. Serving as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director, the DFHR ensures the firm operates efficiently and aligns with its mission, values, and ethical responsibilities.
Requirements of the Director, Finance & Human Resources:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA or MBA strongly preferred. 8-10 years of progressive Finance and HR experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role. Director level experience and experience in a professional services environment is strongly preferred. Effective leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build trust and influence across all levels of the organization. Excellent conflict resolution, problem-solving, and change management capabilities. Analytical mindset with experience using data to drive decision-making. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, accounting software, HRIS, and related software. Strong aptitude for technology, including the ability to learn and adapt to software systems and familiarity with cybersecurity threats and practices. Senior Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) strongly preferred. Benefits of the Job:

Oversees and directs accounting, tax, real estate, and insurance activities for the firm. Works closely with the Managing Director on current and long-range objectives, cash management, and compliance. Reviews the operating results of the firm, compares them to established objectives, and takes steps to ensure appropriate measures are taken when necessary. Prepares and issues the firm's monthly financial statements and other reports for shareholders in a timely manner. Interprets financial statements and daily operating controls (DOC), informing the Managing Director of developing trends. Serves as the plan administrator for the 401(k) retirement plan. Oversees the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, development, retention, and offboarding for attorneys and staff. Develops, implements, and enforces HR policies and procedures supporting compliance, risk mitigation, and workplace consistency. Designs and manages performance evaluation and professional development programs that promote growth, accountability, and alignment with firm goals. Leads employee relations strategies, including conflict resolution, coaching, and disciplinary processes. Oversees firm operations, administration, office procedures, and records management. Supervises employees across Accounting, HR, IT, Facilities, and Service departments in accordance with policies and laws.
