Villages of San Mateo County (VSMC) is seeking a Communications and Member Services Specialist responsible for VSMC communications and developing components of our member support services. As a volunteer-powered organization, VSMC accomplishes much of its work through volunteer partnerships. This role will collaborate with the Executive Director on communications and work with Member Coordinators across our three villages (Sequoia, Mid-Peninsula, and Villages of the Coastside) to enhance member support.

Villages of San Mateo County (VSMC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and part of a growing national movement of virtual villages mobilizing volunteers to support senior neighbors aging with grace and dignity. We help seniors maintain independence in their homes and communities while staying socially connected and active within our VSMC community. We serve San Mateo County from Millbrae to Menlo Park and Pacifica to Half Moon Bay. Founded in 2015, we now have over 330 members and 365 volunteers. Our work is volunteer-driven with a small staff team: full-time Executive Director and Volunteer Director, plus part-time Social Events Manager and Administrative Project Manager. We are at an exciting point in our organizational development, expanding our reach and deepening our impact while building a sustainable base to ensure VSMC remains a community resource for years to come. Responsibilities
Communications (50%) Manage all dimensions of VSMC communication. VSMC Communications: Publish bi-monthly newsletter creating compelling content for the newsletter and for volunteer and member communications. Fundraising Communications: Produce and write persuasive donor communications, fundraising campaigns, and legacy solicitations. Support VSMC Rebranding: Participate in rebranding efforts to create fresh messaging and update VSMC communication tools including brochure and website. Community Outreach: Expand community awareness of our work through social media, and advertisements. Photos and Video: Manage volunteers to build and maintain our photo library and video content. Member Services (50%) Establish VSMC support for member services through the following contributions: Increase Member Outreach and Recruitment: Expand member recruitment through community partners, health channels and senior services. Foster member-focused collaboration: Facilitate cross learning and coordination between Member Coordinators of our three villages (Sequoia, Mid-Peninsula, Coastside). Support Village member engagement teams. Coordinate Aging Transitions Program: Create educational events that support our members to anticipate life transitions. Strengthen Member Data: Work with Village Chairs and Member Coordinators to enhance member data systems to better serve our community. Qualifications
Strong advocate for older adults and building community aligned with our VSMC mission. Connects easily with people of all ages and backgrounds; a proven team player. Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills .Has proven project management and strong organizational skills. Experience motivating and collaborating with volunteers to achieve shared goals. A strong communicator and effective public speaker comfortable with diverse groups and individuals. Computer savvy and comfortable learning new applications, as necessary. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. WORK REQUIREMENTS This is a twenty-hour a week position, requiring a majority of time in our office in Redwood City and in the community, and some small portion of flexible time to work at home. There will be routine meetings out in the community, meeting with Village leaders, volunteers and making presentations. Compensation
This is a non-exempt position working 20 hours a week with an hourly wage of between $31 to $38 per hour, depending upon experience. Benefits include half-time equivalent of 3 weeks of paid time off (vacation and sick) and 12 holidays To Apply
