This role provides strategic direction for campus operations, aligns local initiatives with shared services, and sits on the ISS leadership team. The AVP leads a growing team (facilities personnel and, when approved, other ISS -related positions) and coordinates dotted line support from environmental health & safety, security, and IT colleagues while their primary reporting lines remain to California-based directors. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex operational challenges, develop strategic solutions and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple, detail oriented projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic office setting. Well developed oral and written communication skills to convey complex ideas succinctly to administration, faculty, staff, students, outside dignitaries and other external partners, representing WesternU with professionalism and diplomacy. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with stakeholders at all levels, maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately. Familiarity with budgeting, contract management and process improvement; ability to interpret data and use metrics to drive efficiency and cost reduction. Experience implementing strategic initiatives and recognizing risk factors, including compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations. Advanced skills in productivity and enterprise software (e.g., Microsoft 365 & Project Management tools) and the ability to learn new systems quickly; basic familiarity with office equipment. Capable of working effectively both in a team and independently, assuming ownership of assigned projects while supporting broader organizational goals. Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelors degree
or
an equivalent combination of education and directly related work experience in operations, facilities management or a similar field. Experience:
Minimum of 6 to 8 years of progressively responsible experience in facilities or operations management, including demonstrated experience in leading projects and supervising teams. Preferred Qualifications
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Vision:
Partner with senior ISS leadership and Oregon campus deans to develop an integrated operations strategy aligned with WesternUs strategic plan. Serve on the ISS leadership team, contributing to university wide strategic initiatives and acting as the Oregon advocate in cross campus decisions. Foster a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement, using Lean, Six Sigma and other methodologies. Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership & Reporting:
Directly supervise Oregon based facilities personnel and, when hired, other ISS -related positions, providing mentorship and clear performance expectations. Coordinate and guide dotted line team members, including the Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, Campus Security Manager and the Oregon IT shop, ensuring local alignment while these colleagues report to California based directors. Serve as the primary liaison between Oregon operations and ISS directors in California, translating local needs into system?wide solutions. Key Responsibilities
Operational Management & Integration:
Oversee day-to-day operations for all Oregon facilities, maintenance, custodial, grounds, parking, building access, and campus safety. Manage contracts and vendor relationships for building maintenance and improvements, ensuring compliance with university policies and optimizing cost and quality. Collaborate with IT leadership to integrate technology platforms and provide seamless support to academic and administrative users. Key Responsibilities
Campus Master Planning & Expansion:
Lead project management and coordination of the Oregon campus master planning efforts, working closely with architects, contractors and ISS leadership to ensure strategic growth. Develop and manage multi?year capital budgets; align expansion projects with academic goals; and secure required approvals and funding. Key Responsibilities
