Activities Director
Terrace Health and Rehabilitation is seeking a
dynamic, compassionate, and highly organized Activities Director
to lead our recreational and life-enrichment programming for residents in our skilled nursing and rehabilitation community. This leadership role is responsible for creating a vibrant, resident-centered environment through meaningful engagement, innovative programming, and strong interdisciplinary collaboration.
The ideal candidate is energetic, creative, and passionate about enhancing quality of life for older adults while ensuring compliance with all state and federal requirements.

Required Qualifications
Must possess at least one of the following credentials:
Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) (associate degree minimum)
Activity Director Certified (ADC) (High school diploma minimum; additional state requirements may apply)
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) (bachelor’s degree required)
Experience in a Geriatric Care Environment
Experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, or rehabilitation settings is required
Consideration will be given to candidates with experience in similar geriatric care settings, including Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) and Independent Living Facilities (ILFs), who demonstrate strong resident-centered programming skills and an understanding of interdisciplinary care
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Positive personality with an energetic, highly engaging, and customer-service–focused approach
Ability to effectively supervise, train, and motivate staff
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of MEPAP (Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals)
Preferred at time of hire; must be completed within one month of hire for strong candidates if not already completed
Prior supervisory or departmental leadership experience
Knowledge of CMS, state, and facility regulations related to activities, quality of life, and resident rights
Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and care planning systems
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership and oversight of the Activities Department, including supervision, scheduling, training, and evaluation of multiple staff members
Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive activity and life-enrichment programs that address residents’ physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual needs
Oversee all activity spaces, including:
Activities rooms
Therapy-adjacent programming areas
Exterior activity courtyards and outdoor engagement spaces
Conduct resident assessments, interviews, and ongoing evaluations to ensure individualized and meaningful programming
Complete and maintain accurate documentation, including progress notes, activity attendance, and required regulatory records
Develop, update, and participate in individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
Coordinate group, individual, and one-on-one activities for residents across varying levels of function, including dementia care and short-term rehabilitation populations
Ensure infection control, safety, and risk management practices are followed during all activities
Manage departmental inventory, supplies, calendars, and budget awareness
Program Development, Community Engagement & Continuous Improvement
Lead the development and implementation of new and innovative programs to enhance resident engagement, satisfaction, and overall quality of life
Coordinate community events, partnerships, and volunteer involvement, including intergenerational programs, entertainers, local organizations, and special interest groups
Organize and oversee special events, themed programs, holiday celebrations, and facility-wide activities
Regularly evaluate program effectiveness and resident participation, making data-informed adjustments as needed
Provide recommendations for program improvements, modifications, and enhancements to clinical leadership and facility administration
Collaborate with nursing, therapy, social services, dietary, and administration to align activity programming with residents’ goals of care and overall facility initiatives
