Principal Data Engineer Responsibilities
Architect, build & launch new data models that provide intuitive analytics to business users.
Build & leverage state‑of‑the‑art data access & alignment systems.
Ensure the best possible data is utilized by the models used to help farmers understand the impacts of decisions on their farming operations.
Rapidly prototype new data engineering solutions that support data science & analytics.
Provide expert advice & education in the usage & interpretation of data systems.
Design and develop scalable & robust data architecture plans and/or systems for agronomic machine & geospatial data.
Create cloud‑native data pipelines to build data lakehouses using Apache Iceberg & Apache Spark.
Process large‑scale datasets to enable batch processing & data analysis using ECS & RDS for PostgreSQL.
Perform root cause analysis & optimize data transformations & algorithms by generating time & memory profiling reports.
Package & deploy data algorithms to production using Airflow, Docker and Gitlab CI/CD practices to support geospatial data analytics & visualization.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including product teams & data scientists, defining data requirements & ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Enhance petabyte‑scale data models in SQL using indexing & query optimization to support efficient data retrieval & processing in large‑scale databases.
Develop data processing scripts, ETL processes, & automation tasks using Python programming.
Process & extract features from geospatial shapefiles using GeoPandas, Fiona & Shapely frameworks.
Qualifications
Master’s in Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering or closely related technical field.
Minimum 2 years experience designing & developing scalable & robust data architecture plans and/or systems for agronomic machine & geospatial data.
Will also accept a Bachelor’s in said fields with 5 years progressive post‑Bachelor’s experience.
Experience creating cloud‑native data pipelines using Apache Iceberg & Apache Spark; processing large‑scale datasets for batch processing & data analysis using ECS & RDS for PostgreSQL.
Proficiency in performing root cause analysis & optimizing data transformations & algorithms with time & memory profiling reports.
Proficiency in packaging & deploying data algorithms to production using Airflow, Docker and Gitlab CI/CD practices to support geospatial data analytics & visualization.
Experience collaborating with product teams & data scientists and defining data requirements.
Experience enhancing petabyte‑scale data models in SQL using indexing & query optimization.
Strong background in developing data processing scripts, ETL processes, & automation tasks using Python.
Experience processing & extracting features from geospatial shapefiles using GeoPandas, Fiona & Shapely frameworks.
Benefits & Compensation
Salary Range: $151,000.00 to $175,000.00 (varies based on location, market data, skills, education, and other factors).
Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).
