$101,673.00/yr - $111,621.00/yr Description Duties Description Under the direction of a higher-level supervisor/manager, the duties of the Assistant Landscape Architect may include, but are not limited to:

Assisting with the preparation and coordination of landscape architectural activities and projects for park, recreation, and historic site facilities for the Long Island Region. Performing a full range of landscape architectural planning, design, and construction activities. Assisting with coordination of consultants and contractors during the design and construction phases of projects. Design and Contract Document Development:

Preparing plans, details, specifications, and estimates for projects and activities. Reviewing landscape architectural projects under the direction of a licensed supervisor; may sign and seal documents when acting within licensure and assignment. Construction Phase Activities:

Assisting with contract administration, construction management, and inspections. Serving as Project Manager or Director’s Representative for designated projects as assigned. Ensuring work is completed in accordance with contract documents under supervisory guidance. Assisting with evaluating and tracking project schedules, quality of work, and budgets. Coordinating assigned portions of projects with staff and consultants and assisting in the review of work activities for quality and conformity to professional standards, regulations, codes, program needs, and goals. Completing or participating in environmental and regulatory permitting activities. Preparing, securing, and monitoring permits for assigned projects. Developing graphics that communicate design intent, including presentation materials, renderings, reports, and studies. Providing technical assistance in the development of project scope of work descriptions. Obtaining, analyzing, inventorying, and evaluating field conditions, survey information, and data. Performing facility inspections and surveys to determine the need for repairs, rehabilitations, or improvements, or assisting senior staff with these efforts. Researching materials, codes, and regulations to support project development. Coordinating and communicating with supervisors, other groups, facility managers, individuals, agencies, the public, and organizations to support achievement of project goals.

For Competitive Appointment Minimum Qualifications Candidates may be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list(s) or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. Assistant Landscape Architect, SG-20 A bachelor’s or higher-level degree in landscape architecture; and proof of passing any two sections of the Landscape Architect Registration Exam (LARE); OR A Landscape Architect's License from any state or political subdivision of the United States.

Open Competitive: Successful completion of Sections 1 and 2 of the New York Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE) and one year of experience planning and designing landscape development and site improvement projects,; overseeing the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of outdoor spaces and other open areas for transportation facilities, buildings, parks, historic sites, recreational facilities, campuses, gardens, playgrounds, and roads and highways; or successful completion of 52 weeks of service as a Landscape Architect Trainee and successful completion of Sections 1 and 2 of the LARE. Operational Needs Additional Comments Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. Position will need to work and communicate with the Region, Contracts and Agency staff located in various remote office locations by using videoconferencing, phone and email. Candidate is expected to have proficiency in Revu Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Teams, Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook. Work schedule may vary depending on agency needs and project completion dates.

Salary Information Belmont Lake State Park (Suffolk County) - Salary Information: Assistant Landscape Architect, SG-20: Starting salary (PEF) 101,673 (The starting salary indicated combines the statutory hiring rate for PS&T SG-20 ($74,193) with the Increased Hiring Rate of $9,980, Geographic Pay Differential of $13,500, and Downstate Adjustment of $4,000.)

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a permanent non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
