District Overview Kiewit’s Central District operates in the central and south‑central regions of the United States, building heavy civil and transportation projects—including highways, airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams, and tunnels.

Location The Survey Crew Chief role supports projects throughout the United States. Projects may be located in CO, MT, WY, NM, ND, SD, NE, KS, MO, IA, and MN. Travel to project sites as needed and occasional visits to the district office in Lone Tree, Colorado, for training and meetings are required. Per diem and home‑trip arrangements are provided when on assignment.

Responsibilities

Implement project survey plants according to instruction and lead field survey operations, managing daily activities of survey crews conducting boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction staking surveys.

Operate advanced equipment—including GPS, robotic total stations, 3D laser scanners, and data collectors—to acquire high‑precision measurements; use CAD (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Microstation) to convert drawings into Trimble Business Center for layouts.

Interpret plans and legal documents such as engineering drawings, plats, deeds, and construction documents to guide fieldwork, working within tight vertical and horizontal tolerances and maintaining control networks.

Ensure data integrity by reviewing and validating field data for accuracy and completeness before submission to project teams; maintain accurate field notes and documentation.

Coordinate with project teams—superintendents, field crews, engineers, project managers, and clients—to align scope, schedule, and deliverables and define field execution plans.

Maintain safety compliance by upholding safety standards and ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.

Qualifications

Willingness to work 50‑60 hours per week, including weekends (overtime available).

Minimum 4 years of field construction survey experience, including dimensional control and industrial measurements; preference for leadership experience in heavy‑civil highway, bridge, power plant, water or tunnel projects.

Proficiency with Trimble Access/Business (or similar systems such as Leica or Topcon) and strong understanding of construction staking, boundary analysis, and control networks.

Experience running instruments and willingness to train others on the equipment.

Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Microstation) and GIS platforms preferred.

LSIT or PLS certification is a plus; if not, willing to obtain certifications with Kiewit support.

Valid driver’s license and regional travel capability.

Adaptability to outdoor fieldwork in varied terrain and weather conditions.

Physical ability to lift equipment and perform manual tasks; strong communication skills and work ethic; commitment to safety and precision.

Base Compensation:

$67,000 - $100,000 Note:

Actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, skillset, and location.
