Job Title: Inventory Cost Analyst

Position Overview The Inventory Cost Analyst plays a critical role in managing and analyzing inventory costs to ensure accurate financial reporting and to support data‑driven decision‑making within retail operations. This position partners closely with Finance, Accounting, and Operations teams to optimize inventory controls, investigate variances, and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Manage and oversee inventory costing processes, including standard costing and inventory valuation
Analyze inventory transactions and adjustments to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards
Coordinate, reconcile, and investigate physical inventory counts and variances with financial records
Prepare and analyze inventory‑related financial reports, including variance and trend analyses
Monitor inventory levels, aging, and slow‑moving items to support inventory management decisions
Support month‑end and year‑end close activities related to inventory, including journal entries and reconciliations
Develop and maintain inventory cost models and ensure consistency across inventory activities
Implement and enhance inventory control procedures to improve accuracy and operational efficiency
Reconcile and approve cost and quantity variances at the PO and invoice level
Provide insights and recommendations to leadership on inventory optimization and cost‑saving strategies
Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls related to inventory
Relationships Internal:
CHEF'STORE leadership; Finance and Accounting leaders and associates External:
Vendors, consultants, and market/industry partners
Work Environment
Primarily indoor, climate‑controlled office environment
Regular use of office equipment, including computer and phone
Minimum Qualifications
3 years of experience as an Inventory Cost Accountant, Inventory Analyst, or similar role within the retail industry
Strong understanding of inventory costing methodologies and inventory management principles
Proficiency with ERP systems and inventory management software
Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) proficiency required
Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and identify trends
Knowledge of retail operations and familiarity with retail industry trends preferred

Highly detail‑oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and consistency
Comfortable working in fast‑paced, ambiguous, and changing environments
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneouslyStrong communication skills with the ability to clearly present complex information

Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
CPA or CMA certification is a plus
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform standard office‑based physical activities for extended periods
Training & Onboarding
Training provided for approximately 2–3 weeks
