Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
Creative Programmes Ambassador
Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Richmond, Virginia, United States, 23214
Are you looking for an exciting challenge? If you’re a people person and love art and the outdoors, this could be the perfect role for you.
Kew’s Creative Programmes are looking to recruit a team of outgoing and friendly Hosts who will help our visitors engage with the new programmes at Kew. Working within the Visitor Operations Team, you will be responsible for welcoming visitors to the artistic Installations that have been specially commissioned for the programmes. You will also help visitors understand the best way to interact with the Installations, undertaking some queue management and providing guidance on the best way to experience them.
About Kew The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew) is a leading plant science institute, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and major visitor attraction. Our mission is to understand and protect plants and fungi for the well‑being of people and the future of all life on Earth. We are working to end the unprecedented extinction crisis and to help create a world where nature is protected, valued by all and managed sustainably.
Responsibilities Your primary duties are to encourage visitors to interact with the Installations by providing a warm and outgoing welcome. You will also be responsible for handling visitor queries about the Installations or the Gardens in general. Finally, you will need to confidently and respectfully inform visitors on the appropriate way to engage with the Installations, and monitor their behaviour to ensure the safety of visitors and the Installations.
Qualifications You will have an outgoing, friendly manner, and have experience working in a customer‑facing role, ideally at a visitor attraction. Great communication skills are a must, as is the ability to be self‑motivated and confident.
Working Conditions Due to Kew’s nature as an outdoor site, this role will be based outdoors, in a range of weather conditions. It can involve long periods of standing and the ability to ride a bicycle will prove to be useful when travelling between the different installations across the gardens.
Interviews are due to take place between 2 and 5 February.
Salary and Benefits Salary: £26,234 per annum (pro rata) [Band A]
Benefits include opportunities for continuous learning, a generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working, an Employee Assistance Programme, wellness support such as cycle‑to‑work scheme and discounted gym membership, a competitive pension, an employee discount scheme and free entry into a wide range of national museums and galleries as well as access to our own beautiful gardens at Kew and Wakehurst.
