Maintenance/Facilities Lead (VLC and CCC)
in the Facilities Services division. Salary Placement: Placement is on Range 43 of Classified Represented Salary Schedule B. Initial step placement for new employees is typically Step 1, 2, or 3 ($6,984.00 / $7,395.00 / $7,824.00 per month) of this 20‑step range. The probationary period is six months. This is a 12‑month, 40‑hour per week position. The role includes paid holidays, discretionary days, sick leave, and accrual of ten vacation days in the first year. Position Description Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President, Maintenance and Grounds, this position performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and alteration of District buildings, facilities, and fixtures, including carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical trades. The role supports both the Valencia and Canyon Country campuses and assists with administrative duties for Maintenance. Performs related duties as assigned. Examples of Duties Administrative and Leadership Duties Assists the Associate Vice President, Maintenance and Grounds with administrative functions, including meeting with vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Coordinates repair and project schedules from initiation through completion, including oversight of outside contractors. Maintains inventory records for supplies, materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment. Responds to inquiries and recommends facility repairs or improvements. Supports scheduling, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair/replacement of automated lighting controls, air compressors, and fire panels. Assists with hazardous waste and chemical handling/disposal in compliance with regulations. Tracks and manages purchase requisitions, processes purchase orders, monitors invoices, and maintains expenditure records for blanket/open POs. Assists with authorized overtime scheduling and implementation. Provides guidance and direction to short‑term, student, or temporary employees. Skilled Trades Responsibilities Performs skilled work in carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical, plumbing, and flooring repair. Constructs, installs, and maintains structures including roofs and fences. Assembles and installs prefabricated furniture. Installs, maintains, and repairs gas, water, sewer, and storm drain lines. Maintains and troubleshoots HVAC systems and controls. Installs and repairs door locks and closures. Performs welding, soldering, pipe threading, and metalsmithing for equipment repair and fabrication. Operates and maintains motorized equipment such as trucks, tractors, forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts. Performs pool and fountain maintenance. Installs and maintains District equipment and infrastructure. Repairs plumbing fixtures and clears obstructions from water, sewer, and drainage systems. Operates and maintains mechanical and power tools used in carpentry, plumbing, and other trades. Inspects buildings and grounds for safety hazards and repair needs; provides recommendations. Plans, estimates, purchases materials for, and oversees construction and maintenance projects. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities Ability to: Skillfully use tools/equipment in one or more maintenance trades. Interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches. Maintain detailed records and reports. Lead and direct short‑term or hourly employees. Maintain cooperative working relationships. Estimate, plan, and organize materials and labor for construction/maintenance work. Follow written and oral instructions. Work off‑hours or weekends if needed. Demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of community college students, staff, and community members. Qualifications and Minimum Requirements Experience Four years of journeyman‑level experience in one or more building maintenance trades plus two years of specialty training or licensed certification (minimum 120 hours). Two of the four years may be substituted with two additional years of specialty training in areas such as: Building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical systems Computer‑controlled equipment, HVAC/electrical controls Electrical/pneumatic devices Telecommunications/electronic infrastructure Heavy equipment repair Swimming pool maintenance Welding and fabrication Painting systems and building finishes Vehicle repair Education High school diploma or equivalent, plus completion of an approved apprenticeship program or equivalent training/experience. Licenses/Certificates Valid California driver’s license and maintenance of any required specialty certificates, certifications, or licenses.
