Job Description Summary Since 1997, Reach Out & Read Kansas City (ROR‑KC) provides critical early literacy services to at‑risk children ages birth to five, partnering with healthcare clinics across the Kansas City metropolitan area. ROR‑KC is the sole medically‑based early literacy program in Kansas City, making literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric care so children grow up with books, engaged parents, and school readiness. The coordinator works from our office on the KU Medical Center campus, supporting fundraising event planning, communications, marketing, and volunteer program leadership.

Job Duties Event Planning and Fundraising

Coordinate, fundraise, and grow two signature events annually.

Plan and execute additional fundraising campaigns and events such as Giving Tuesday, One Day, One KU, and restaurant percentage nights.

Serve as the liaison between ROR‑KC and media outlets.

Recruit, train, and place event committee members/volunteers for event planning and execution.

Maintain and grow relationships with event sponsors, acting as the primary contact.

Marketing and Communications

Adhere to ROR‑KC style guide to ensure consistent branding, voice, and mission across all materials.

Produce content for social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube) and maintain the blog and website.

Create a communications plan, including content for an e‑newsletter and periodic updates to the website.

Assist the board marketing committee with marketing efforts.

Schedule meetings or interviews with families, medical professionals, or volunteers to develop content.

Plan and execute the annual parent survey, from dissemination to evaluation.

Volunteer Coordination

Welcome volunteers by email promptly upon inquiry.

Schedule, train, and assign new volunteers.

Coordinate a volunteer appreciation event annually in April.

Communicate volunteer needs and interests with staff to align opportunities.

Maintain volunteer information in a database and report it for program and grant purposes.

Required Qualifications

Four (4) years of relevant experience, or education may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis.

One (1) year of professional experience in event planning, social media management, public relations, marketing, or a writing field.

Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) years of professional experience in special event planning, social media management, public relations, marketing, or fundraising.

One year of experience with websites and social media posting, design, blogging, writing, and editing.

Experience in journalism, Canva, Donor Perfect, One Cause, or graphic design.

Experience working with diverse populations.

Skills

Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

Attention to detail.

Compensation Pay Range: $22.66 – $32.85 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
