Overview

The Fleet Services Technician performs automotive and equipment maintenance and repair work for the Nisqually Indian Tribe. Responsibilities include timely and thorough diagnosis and repair of a variety of gasoline powered equipment. All responsibilities associated with this position will be learned through on-the-job training provided by Fleet Services Lead Mechanics. This position ensures the confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records, and promotes positive employee, customer, and community relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required and outstanding customer service to fellow employees, customers, vendors, etc. is expected. Regular attendance is required, and on occasion, later hours or weekend time may be required with project deadlines and a neat well-groomed professional appearance is always essential. Primary Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance and repair of Tribal vehicles. Perform preventative maintenance services and inspections on vehicle fleet. Diagnose and repair gasoline-powered engines. Diagnose, repair, and wire electrical system. Install, diagnose, and repair electrical system, hydraulic and air brake systems. Operate a variety of diagnostic engines and other testing equipment. Perform drilling, tapping threads, measuring, and simple welding to repair, design, and fabricate for equipment modifications. Diagnose and repair automatic/manual transmissions and drivelines. Repair and service air conditioning and heating. Test and inspect emissions system. Test and inspect completed work to assure proper performance and timely completion. Perform safety inspections. Perform other duties as assigned. All duties will be taught on-the-job by Fleet Service Lead Mechanics. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Some experience in the automotive repair/maintenance field. Must be an enrolled Nisqually Tribal member at least 21 years of age. Must Complete and pass ASE certification courses A-1, A-3, A-5 and A-7 within a year of hire date. Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets the minimum requirements established by Nisqually Indian Tribes vehicle insurance provider. Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check. Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's history, customs, traditions, and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity. Experience working with Federally Recognized Tribes. Eager to learn and excel in automotive repair. Supervision

This position does not supervise. Competencies

Knowledge of gas-powered equipment and engines. Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs for vehicles and equipment. Ability to complete work in a timely manner and in accordance with the required quality standards. Ability to operate a personal computer or tablet. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Ability to communicate effectively with others, orally and in writing. Ability to work effectively with others. Ability to pass ASE certification courses A-1, A-3, A-5 and A-7 within a year of hire date. Working Environment/Conditions

The work environment and exposures described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary responsibilities of this job. Work will be conducted indoor and outdoor and may be exposed to fluctuations in temperature while in and around Nisqually Indian Tribe. You may be exposed to all types of weather to include but not limited to summer heat, winter cold, humidity, rain, snow, wind, and any other weather conditions experienced at the property. May be exposed to normal conditions related to the position i.e., noise from vehicles, machines, tools, customers, employees, dust, pollen, odors, wildlife etc. Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands; handle; feel; or grip objects, stretch and/or reach with hands and arms; stoop; crouch or work in cramped or awkward positions; repetitive motions; operate hand tools (may include operating heavy machinery), office machinery and motor vehicles. This person may regularly lift and/or move up to 55+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust to focus. Specific work assignments may change without notice.
