The Global Payment Network Business Risk Office partners with business units to identify, assess, and mitigate network‑specific operational and regulatory risks. The office designs and executes risk frameworks, manages issues and complaints, ensures compliance, supports change management, and fosters a culture of accountability and informed decision‑making. The Governance team ensures effective governance and risk management across Discover Network, Diners Club International, and PULSE Network, ensuring decisions are appropriately challenged, approved, and communicated.
Key Responsibilities
Support the team in identifying and assessing risk for decisions impacting the network, participants, or cardholders.
Act as a liaison between Discover Network, Diners Club International, and/or PULSE Network and key stakeholders and process owners, facilitating effective challenge, approval, and reporting processes.
Maintain policies and standards governing global payment network operating processes.
Risk consulting to one or more business areas relative to their business lines and providing advice and guidance as required.
Client management – develop and leverage key relationships with stakeholders that enable collaboration across the enterprise.
Corrective action – identify and track events and issues to mitigate risk to Capital One; coordinate with applicable business areas to define and implement remediation activities.
Monitoring and reporting of retail deposit compliance efforts.
Change management – lead change control efforts at the process level to ensure impacts are appropriately assessed, documented, and implemented.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or military experience.
At least 1 year of financial services risk management experience.
At least 2 years of project management experience.
At least 3 years of experience supporting, partnering with, and interacting with internal business clients.
At least 3 years of project management experience leading cross‑functional projects and programs in risk.
PMP certification or master’s certificate of project management (CPM).
Compensation
Chicago, IL: $106,700 – $121,700 for Principal Risk Specialist
McLean, VA: $117,300 – $133,900 for Principal Risk Specialist
New York, NY: $128,000 – $146,100 for Principal Risk Specialist
Riverwoods, IL: $106,700 – $121,700 for Principal Risk Specialist
This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long‑term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non‑discretionary depending on the plan.
