Who May Apply The primary duties of this position are located within 30 miles of the state border; therefore, this position is exempt from the residency requirements. Applications will be considered from residents and non‑residents of Colorado.

Job Location Sterling Correctional Facility: Sterling, Colorado.

Job Duties

Teach and mentor inmate students individually or in large and small group classrooms promoting occupational, academic and transitional performance skills;

Determine educational needs of inmate students to develop short and long term goals;

Plan course content and develop methods of instruction;

Develop and implement competency‑based teaching aids such as instructional software, multimedia visual aids, or study materials;

Lecture on theories, concepts and terminology of customer service;

Select and administer appropriate performance assessments to inmate students in order to measure progress, course completion requirements, and to evaluate training/testing effectiveness;

Ensure security, safety, supervision and monitoring of inmate students in the proper use, storage and inventory of equipment tools, keys and hazardous materials in accordance with CDOC regulations;

Prepare reports and maintain records such as student grades, attendance rosters, and training activity details;

Observe and evaluate inmate students’ work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement;

Document inmate achievements, competencies and contact hours toward completion of certificate requirements;

Provide oversight and coordination of Computer Based Testing lab and record security to include test proctoring of all computer based testing;

Justify accuracy and usage of budget requests;

Participate in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field, and integrate relevant information into training programs;

Commit to teamwork and collaboration with fellow teachers in a cooperative effort to promote mutual and continued guidance and improvements;

Actively contribute to the safety and security of the facility through effective inmate management and promoting conflict resolution and solutions;

Endorse and adhere to the CDOC Mission and Vision promoting commitment and integrity;

Maintain Colorado Community College credential;

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in business, customer service or a related field AND the applicant must have completed 4,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience in a construction industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS). (There is no substitution for the completed 4,000 hours.)

In lieu of an Associate’s Degree, applicant must possess a current State of Colorado, national, industry, military, or union license/certification appropriate for a construction industry skill or related trade area AND the applicant must have completed 4,000 hours verifiable occupational experience in a business/customer service industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS). (There is no substitution for the completed 4,000 hours.)

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in a business or customer service industry or related field of study AND the applicant must have completed 2,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience in a construction industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS). (There is no substitution for the completed 2,000 hours.)

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a Business or a Customer Service related field;

CCCS Credential in Business;

Experience teaching or training adults;

Experience teaching or training Customer Service;

Experience teaching or training in a correctional environment;

Experience with test proctoring.
