Location: 1240 American Beauty Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84116 | Schedule: Tuesday - Friday 6:00 am to 4:30 pm | Type: Full‑Time | FLSA: Non‑Exempt
UCA is committed to providing safe, nurturing environments where children, families, and staff can thrive. We are seeking a detail‑oriented, proactive Safety & Compliance Specialist to help maintain a strong Culture of Safety across our programs and facilities.
The Safety & Compliance Specialist ensures the safety and security of staff, clients, vendors, and agency properties. This role conducts regular inspections, monitors compliance with local, state, federal, and program regulations, and supports preventive maintenance by creating and tracking work orders. The Specialist also trains staff on agency safety procedures and supports emergency preparedness efforts.
What You’ll Do & What You Bring
Monitor, document, and maintain safety compliance at all agency sites.
Create, track, and follow up on maintenance and repair tickets in agency software.
Conduct regular facility and grounds inspections to ensure regulatory compliance.
Prepare reports and provide recommendations aligned with best practices and Head Start Performance Standards.
Develop and deliver safety and security trainings for staff.
Collaborate with the Facilities & Maintenance Manager to create and maintain emergency procedures.
Support a welcoming, agency‑wide Culture of Safety.
Communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and leadership while managing multiple tasks.
Utilize digital management systems, Microsoft Office, and web‑based applications.
What You’ll Need to Succeed Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
2 years of experience in building safety and maintenance
Certified Playground Safety Inspector (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
Bonus Points (Preferred but Not Required)
Associate's degree in a safety‑related field
Head Start program experience
Knowledge of Head Start health and safety standards
Driver's License, Insurability & Travel Requirements A valid, unrestricted driver's license must be maintained, and the individual must remain eligible for vehicle insurance coverage. Travel may include using personal or agency vehicles for program‑related transportation.
Work Environment & Physical Demands Work may occur in office settings, early childhood classrooms, and outdoor playground environments. Physical requirements include occasional kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, reaching, and standing/walking; frequent driving and pushing/pulling; and the ability to lift or carry 50 lbs. or more.
