Your opportunity at a glance The WSLCB Information Technology Services Division is announcing an exciting opportunity for IT Quality Assurance - Entry in Olympia, WA. This position reports to the Software Quality Assurance Supervisor in the WSLCB's Information Technology Services Division (ITSD).
The position serves and complements the WSLCB's mission and goals by supporting the quality assurance testing function for WSLCB’s regulatory, tax-collection and tax distribution information systems. This position utilizes general knowledge of software quality assurance testing standards and best practices to plan, design and execute tests for small to moderately complex system modifications, enhancements, upgrades, and solution replacements.

Duties
Analyze requirements and technical specifications to determine and define testing scope.
Develop well‑structured test plans in accordance with operational standards, seeking feedback from peers whenever possible. Modify test plans when necessary.
Develop test schedules to reflect individual tasks, task order of operations, and task dependencies.
Develop test cases in accordance with defined acceptance criteria to verify and/or validate basic flows and exception flows. Establish and maintain test case traceability to user stories, ensuring full test scope coverage.
Develop test data, including the use of simple SQL commands and queries to validate data integrity and compare data results.
Track, monitor and report defect status through to resolution in accordance with operational standards. Re‑execute tests for all failed test cases until passing results are achieved.
Review requirements, specifications, and technical design documents to ensure they are correct, complete, and consistent and use this knowledge to determine defect validity.
Discuss defect costs, risks and benefits and come to agreement on whether the defect should be fixed immediately or deferred to a future release in collaboration with other business and technical stakeholders.
Write and execute complex SQL queries using advanced knowledge of SQL with complex joins to retrieve data stored in relational databases to perform and validate data defects.
Apply lessons learned to continuously improve defect management processes and procedures.
Work collaboratively with the project/effort manager to break testing workload activities down to the task level and provide reasonable delivery estimates for inclusion in the project/effort schedule. Ensure that testing efforts are appropriately resourced based on scope and level of technical skillset required to achieve testing outcomes.
Required Qualifications Candidates can gain the competencies required for the IT Quality Assurance – Entry position through a combination of on‑the‑job experience, and specialized training, even without a formal degree.
Option 1 An Associate’s degree or above in Computer Science, IT or other closely related field.
One (1) year of experience using digital, physical, or computational technologies for performing IT related activities, executing tasks, and completing processes.
Option 2 Three (3) years of technical experience as listed above.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated working‑level knowledge and skills in writing clear, concise test scenarios, test cases, scripts, and executing testing.
Demonstrated knowledge SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) and Agile development methodology.
Demonstrated working‑level skills related to automated testing as it relates to CI/CD, and to the Software Development Life Cycle.
Demonstrated working‑level knowledge with Azure DevOps and other software test tools.
Demonstrated solid working‑level knowledge and skills in SQL Server Management Studio and Transact‑SQL commands and scripting.
Advanced knowledge of scripting languages like JavaScript, C#, and Python.
Demonstrated working‑level knowledge and skills in performance testing.
Demonstrated working‑level knowledge and skills in accessibility testing.
