Overview Come lead with us at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. The Senior Exercise Physiologist evaluates patients referred to the Cardiac Rehabilitation program, develops and implements effective and efficient treatment plans, and conducts day‑to‑day operations of the program. This role also supports the growth and professional development of the individual, department, and Houston Methodist, and maintains department records for accreditation with the American Academy of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities
Promotes a positive work environment and leads the team to be a dynamic, focused unit that achieves optimal department results.
Serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to other Exercise Physiologists, assisting in professional development and teaching clinical rotations, new employees, and interns.
Assists with protocols and objectives to optimize staff performance, teamwork, patient safety, and customer service.
Delivers high‑quality patient care as outlined in the patient’s care plan, putting the patient’s needs first and providing a nurturing environment.
Performs comprehensive evaluations of patients to identify functional level, develop plans of care, and adhere to documentation guidelines.
Establishes and maintains professional relationships with the inter‑professional team, assists management with daily operations, and ensures quality outcomes.
Assesses patients regularly, monitors progress, modifies goals and programs as indicated, and collaborates on treatment plan adjustments.
Assists with implementation of treatment protocols and best practices, identifies opportunities for corrective action, and participates in quality and safety initiatives.
Uses resources efficiently to maximize utilization of time and equipment, manages time effectively and prioritizes tasks to meet productivity standards.
Monitors documentation accuracy, enters charges, and performs charge reconciliation appropriately.
Facilitates learning opportunities and self‑development, maintains an individual development plan, and seeks continuing education.
Provides innovative solutions through performance improvement projects and shared governance activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science or related field.
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
Four years’ experience in a Cardiac Rehab Program. (HM employee with three years’ experience and progressive responsibilities may be considered.)
Licenses & Certifications
BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (American Heart Association).
ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (American Heart Association).
Skills & Abilities
Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform duties, assessed through ongoing evaluations.
Proficient speaking, reading, and writing English for patient and employee safety.
Effective communication with patients, physicians, families, and coworkers; customer‑service focus.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; delivers excellent customer service.
Basic computer knowledge; operates multiple hospital and office software systems.
Strong interpersonal skills, conflict management, and analytic data tracking.
