POSITION SUMMARY Ensures the delivery of quality nursing care for patients undergoing surgical and non‑invasive procedures in accordance with age‑related and individual needs, physician's orders, hospital policy, standards of care and nursing practice. Responsible for assessing the needs of patients, planning nursing care to meet those needs, and ensuring that the plan of care is carried out and documented according to the principles defined in the nursing process.

Relocation Assistance & Compensation Relocation assistance available up to $15,000. Pay range: $49.34/hr – $74.08/hr.

Perianesthesia Nursing Care Phases

Preop: (66101-DSU; 65911-TOPS Pre Post)

Phase I: (66501 Recovery Room; 65911 TOPS Pre Post)

Phase II: (66101-DSU; 65911-TOPS Pre Post)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs and documents assessments and data collection for pre‑op/post‑op patients using hospital charting formats.

Assembles required patient data for pre‑op charts.

Administers medication as ordered by physician via all routes safely and accurately.

Utilizes PACU equipment safely and accurately.

Manages hemodynamic status in post‑op patients as ordered, utilizing specific supplies.

Assists physicians with equipment (e.g., arterial lines, spinal/epidural, intubation).

Follows personal protective equipment, infection control, and hazardous waste disposal procedures.

Participates in “stand‑by call” per department policy.

Employs the nursing process of assessment, planning, and evaluation to deliver care in the PACU.

Prioritizes patient care based on essential needs and available unit resources, adapting efficiently to emergencies.

Responds efficiently in emergency patient situations according to established policies/code procedures.

Adapts care for unexpected changes in patient status.

Identifies patient or significant other learning needs and implements appropriate measures.

Utilizes appropriate standard of care for identified surgical or procedural diagnoses.

Demonstrates self‑directed learning and participation in continuing education.

Aware of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strives to manage situations with reduced risk.

Participates in QI and PI activities.

Performs or delegates tasks and duties of the health‑care team.

Uses problem‑solving techniques to make decisions regarding patient care and unit activity.

Employs cost‑effective measures in patient care delivery.

Communicates patient needs, changes in condition, and time delays to staff, family, and patients.

Communicates an accurate hand‑off report to staff during shift transfers.

Advocates for patient and significant other rights.

Effectively manages conflict using respectful relationships with all health‑care team members.

Collaborates appropriately for patient and department benefit, respecting coworker differences.

Functions as a preceptor to new staff members.

Participates in a cooperative effort to accomplish all unit tasks.

PERFORMED OCCASIONALLY BUT CRITICAL

Attends and participates in staff meetings, in‑services, and continuing education opportunities.

Participates in the Quality Improvement process to focus on patient and organizational best interests.

Assists in coordination and monitoring of specialty supply loan/borrow processes.

Follows procedures in unusual and emergent situations.

Participates in annual inventory process.

Implements ACLS skills in code blue situations.

DECISION MAKING & BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES

Promotes cost effectiveness through proper use and conservation of supplies and equipment.

Identifies cost‑saving measures.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS Required

Education:

Associate's Degree in Nursing.

Experience:

N/A.

Licenses, Certifications & Registrations: • Current licensure as a registered nurse by the Oregon State Board of Nursing • American Heart Association BLS • ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire • (For TOPS Pre Post department only) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required upon hire; internal candidates required within 6 months of transfer

Other:

Standby call required for Recovery Room specific positions.

Preferred

Bachelor or Master of Science in Nursing.

Phase I: Minimum one year experience in PACU or Critical Care (preferred).

PreOp/Phase II: Minimum one year experience in DSU or Med/Surg (preferred).

Membership in appropriate professional organization (preferred).

Demonstrated experience caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge of government and regulatory agency rules/regulations.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills (written, verbal, non‑verbal).

Problem‑solving skills related to patient care and unit activity.

Proficiency with hospital-computerized information/ordering system.

Professional appearance and conduct.

Proficiency in English (spoken and written).

Bilingual – Spanish as a second language (preferred).

Previous outpatient ambulatory setting experience (TOPS, DSU) preferred.

For TOPS Pre Post department only, two years of pediatric experience in Perianesthesia may be required.

CAPA, CPAN certifications (preferred).

For PACU (66501) and Day Surgery (66101) departments – PALS certification (preferred).
