Job Description and Duties This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission by performing entry‑level duties in the Radioactive Materials Licensing (RML) Section, Medical, Academic, and Licensing (MAL) Unit. The Assistant Health Physicist (Asst. HP) applies principles of radiation, health physics, and radiation control regulations to review, perform, and determine the health physics and engineering regulatory standards for various radioactive materials license applications, sealed source and device registrations, and on‑site facility inspections in accordance with Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) and Title 17, California Code of Regulations (17 CCR). The Asst. HP receives didactic training, attends statewide and out‑of‑state training, and undertakes on‑site facility inspections as required.
Minimum Requirements
Classified in the ASSISTANT HEALTH PHYSICIST category
Junior Health Physicist status is considered for alternate classification
Working Conditions Telework is available under CDPH’s Telework Program. All teleworkers must be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates residing outside California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must maintain California residency prior to appointment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in rescission of the offer.
Travel may be required for this position. Reimbursement for travel assumes a designated headquarters location and is subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. Commute expenses to the designated headquarters office are the responsibility of the selected candidate.
