The Help Desk Technician performs routine technical tasks involving various types of computer systems (both hardware and software), local area networks (LAN), maintenance of systems, user application systems, and documentation. The primary responsibility is to assist City employees with their day‑to‑day computing needs and staffing the City Information Technology (I.T.) Help Desk. All work is performed under the general direction of the Network Specialist & IT Technician; however, the incumbent will exercise final responsibility in routine matters. Essential Functions

Provide technical support to City employees via phone, email, and self‑service Help Desk tickets. Perform setup, installation and maintenance of various computer hardware and software systems to include microcomputers, thin clients, VoIP telephones, mobile devices, servers, LAN and WAN networking systems. Provide technical support and training of users for various computer hardware and software as required. Assist Information Technology Technician with inventory of computer hardware and software. Assess and troubleshoot computer support problems and apply understanding of computer software and hardware products and services to resolve end‑user problems. Perform basic administration of RingCentral VoIP telephone system. Write documentation for procedures, applications, programs, and training. Receive, document, prioritize, and schedule installation and maintenance of PC‑based systems and thin clients; notify those requesting work of the expected resolution time. Assist in research and planning, enhancements, and upgrades for both hardware and software to the City data network. Assist the IT Department staff or others with the completion and tracking of projects. Follow safe working practices and understand safety practices and procedures. Operate various computer systems and peripheral equipment according to established procedures. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of computer equipment and work areas. Perform related work as required. Participate in the City’s disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts as designated in the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. Minimum Qualifications

AA/AS degree in Computer Science or closely related field from a two‑year college or technical school and one year of computer‑related support experience; or a High School Diploma or G.E.D. with some vocational training in computers and three (3) years’ experience in computer operations. Experience should be in the setup and running of microcomputers in a networked environment, with the majority of experience being Microsoft products. MCSA or greater, A+ and/or Network+ is preferred, but not required. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Special Requirements

Valid Florida driver license. Ability to work flexible schedules at varied locations as requested and/or in emergencies. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of microcomputers, server hardware, virtualization (VMware), and Microsoft operating systems. Familiarity with enterprise software deployment methods via group policy and WDS technologies. Ability to meet job demands under stressful situations (e.g., program conversion deadlines, program/data recoveries from hardware failures). Ability to train users in general application software. Ability to read and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and reach valid conclusions. Ability to work productively as part of a team. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and communicate effectively both orally and in writing with individuals and groups. Must be able to work independently and cooperatively with all City staff and outside vendors. General Application Information
