Position Title: General Maintenance/Carpenter
Location: District
Department: Buildings & Grounds
Reports To: Maintenance and Compliance Supervisor
Term: Year‑round position
Schedule: Mon‑Fri Full‑time
Salary: Classified Salary Schedule 2025‑2026 at B230. Starting salary $22.30‑$25.30 per hour based on experience.
Date of last review: November 2025
Summary The General Maintenance/Carpenter position completes various maintenance tasks to ensure successful functioning of district systems for daily operations and safe conditions for learners, staff, and the general public. The position performs various maintenance duties that are necessary to maintain and enhance the value of the school district property.

Qualification Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Demonstrated operational skills and knowledge of mechanics
Demonstrated operational skills and knowledge of machine and hand tools employed in mechanical/carpentry work
Demonstrated operational skills and knowledge of preventative maintenance inspection methods
Demonstrated operational skills and knowledge of methods, practices, equipment, and materials used in maintenance or construction of buildings
Experience working in maintenance/carpentry is preferred
Experience working in a school setting is preferred
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record; must be eligible to be an insured driver under WFPS policies
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop positive, effective working relationships with learners and staff
Connect and share ideas through appropriate/applicable formats to express thoughts and ideas with integrity
Understands the complexities of cultural and global issues and how they relate to employee and learners’ experiences
Partners with others to resolve potential controversy and conflict through respectful discussion
Proactively seeks to understand the ideas, opinions, and skills of others
Connects with team members and shares ideas in an effort to improve the overall learner and employee experience
Reasons, interprets, and analyzes information to generate new knowledge and understanding
Maintains communication with supervisor and director regarding general feedback, career advancement opportunities, and areas of growth opportunities
Maintains composure while dealing with stressful situations
Proactively seeks out resolutions and takes initiative to resolve knowledge gaps
Performs scheduled maintenance on all equipment based on the manufacturer’s recommendations and operating manuals
Periodically inspects all buildings, common areas, improvements, performing repairs and janitorial assistance as needed
Repairs and maintains doors, floors, windows, partitions and roofs
Repairs and builds tables, benches, cabinets, counters and other wooden equipment
Performs hand and bench work, operates planners, jointers, power saws and other wood working equipment
Prioritizes service requests and establishes preventative maintenance schedules
Participates and/or supervises in all carpentry projects as instructed by the Director of Buildings & Grounds
Notifies management of unsafe supplies, equipment, etc.
Keeps workshops and other areas clean, orderly and safe
Assists in all aspects of the property’s maintenance, including grounds, custodial, preventative, corrective, deferred and emergency maintenance
Follows all District safety procedures and reports and ensures correction of any unsafe conditions, equipment and materials
Responsible for stock control and utilization of maintenance materials
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Regularly required to reach with hands and arms
Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, talk, and hear
Frequently required to use hands to manipulate objects, tools, and/or controls
Required to bend at the trunk more than the average person
Required close and peripheral vision
May be required to lift up to ~50 pounds
May be required to climb ladders up to ~20 feet in height
Frequent exposure to applicable outdoor elements
Must work with the public and various WFPS staff while simultaneously managing several competing demands
May work in an environment that has a moderate to loud noise level
May contact bloodborne pathogens or other bodily fluids on rare occasions
May be exposed to high or cold temperatures, chemical compounds, and/or sharp edges
Language Skills
Ability to read, write, and comprehend technical documentation and information
Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondences in the English language
Ability to communicate effectively verbally, expressively, and reactively
Other Skills and Abilities
Exercise confidentiality, discretion, and good judgement
Adhere to the assigned work schedule by maintaining regular and punctual attendance
