Role Overview : The Patient Access Representative provides quality customer service to patients of all ages, families, visitors, medical staff, clinicians, and co‑workers, ensuring courteous, quick and respectful interactions. This position establishes and maintains environmental control, coordinates materials management, assists in monitoring clinic activities, and supervises clerical duties.
Responsibilities
Handle all business functions in the assigned area, including reception, scheduling, and registration of patients for appointments and procedures.
Secure and verify patient information; validate insurance eligibility, enter data into systems, and collect co‑pay when applicable.
Assist with financial counseling and clearance as necessary.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements

Experience Required
Previous experience with computers, Microsoft Office software, and web navigation.
Typing ability of 40 words per minute.
Experience Preferred
Work experience with medical insurance, HMO, managed care, electronic medical billing/order entry/registration systems, and appointment scheduling.
Experience in a healthcare setting with knowledge of medical terminology.
Education Required
High school graduate or GED.
Education Preferred
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited program.
Independent Action
Ability to perform daily activities with minimal supervision and self‑directed accomplishment of routine tasks.
Supervisory Responsibilities None.
Additional Position Requirements
May be required to work off‑shifts, weekends, and holidays depending on assignment.
Considered essential depending on departmental assignment.
Physical Requirements Lifting less than 20 lbs; lifting 50‑100 lbs. Activities include prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing steps or ladders, and reaching overhead. Mental/sensory: strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking. Emotional: fast‑pace and steady pace environment, ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent intense customer interactions, noisy environment, adaptability.
