If so then the Peninsula Health District is seeking a skilled and dedicated Healthcare Technician Senior! The Healthcare Technician Senior will play a vital role in supporting medical and nursing staff through hands‑on clinical care. They will perform essential tasks such as collecting lab specimens, drawing blood and conducting point‑of‑care tests such as glucose, hemoglobin and urine screenings. The successful candidate will be part of a clinical team responsible for providing exceptional customer service to clients within the Peninsula Health District.

Following a direct protocol policy or procedure provide technical support to professional medical and nursing staff. Duties consist of the following routine clinical tasks:

Collection of laboratory specimens (adult venipuncture, adult and pediatric capillary sticks)

Performing clinical laboratory tests (hemoglobin, hematocrit, glucose, urine pregnancy, fecal occult blood, sedimentation rate, urine dipsticks)

Collect sputum samples

Assess a client for changes in condition based on an established protocol approved by VDH

Sterilize instruments, inventory and order supplies, maintain logs, files and records, collect clinical data and compile statistics

Work under the supervision of a licensed provider

The Healthcare Technician Senior’s primary focus is providing patient care laboratory leadership while ensuring quality service that directly supports public health.

VDH requires all Health‑Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, a one‑time dose of tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap) (boosters every 10 years) and the current year’s seasonal influenza vaccination.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience performing health screening tests and procedures including venipuncture, phlebotomy and documentation

Knowledge of basic clinical and laboratory procedures and basic medical terminology

Ability to work with patients of all ages and ethnicities, work with a team, provide excellent customer service, problem‑solve, follow directions, set priorities, organize time, provide patient referrals based on clinician orders and perform clerical activities (greeting patients, scheduling appointments, filing documents, using computers)

Familiar with specimen collection and processing

Required to maintain a valid driver’s license and adhere to VDHs driver safety policies

Additional Considerations

Experience in a public or health care setting and cleaning and sterilization of surgical equipment

Office support experience in a medical setting and bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish, Arabic or Nepali

Certified as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant or Patient Care Technician
