Lab Supervisor - Spec Chem LCMSMS

Location:

Chantilly, VA

Schedule:

Sunday to Thursday, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM

Pay Range:

$67,200+ per year (eligible for annual performance bonus)

Responsibilities

Oversee activities of the department, distribute/assign work, determine priorities, and schedule non‑routine procedures.

Perform supervisory functions for assigned staff including interviewing, hiring, training, and providing staff development through performance evaluation and corrective counseling.

Perform advanced/specialized tests and other related laboratory techniques; may duplicate work of others to confirm results, re‑evaluate methodology, make recommended changes, and assist in test interpretation.

Check/approve all specialized and problem reports for accuracy.

Initiate quality‑control measures and monitor quality of work for adherence to laboratory standards.

Perform duties of a technologist as needed during absences or peak workload.

Complete special projects as requested—surveys, statistical reports, studies, research, etc.

Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.

Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.

Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and laboratory safety requirements.

Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work‑practice controls as directed by management.

Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable.

Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.

Other duties as assigned; this is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications Required work experience:

4–6 years full‑time as a medical technologist or equivalent in a clinical laboratory.

Preferred:

Previous supervisory experience.

Physical & Mental Requirements

Lifting and carrying: 1–10 lb frequently; 11–25 lb occasionally; 36–50 lb seldom; >50 lb not to be lifted without assistance.

Ability to sit or stand for long periods.

Requires significant manual dexterity for pipettes and laboratory instruments.

Knowledge

Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty.

Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.

Skills

Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills.

Detail‑oriented, independent, able to establish priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Interpersonal and communication skills for courteous and effective interaction with employees, coworkers, and clients.

Ability to handle client information confidentially.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
