OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE This position is responsible for general janitorial services of City-owned facilities including cleaning, sanitation, minor maintenance, and supply procurement. City-owned facilities include City Hall, Public Works, Fire Station, Library, and other smaller ancillary buildings. Not all facilities need daily cleaning. This position requires excellent customer service and teamwork skills, including anticipation of needs, assuring safe and sanitary operating conditions, and responding to requests.

PAY Expected Hiring Range: $27.98-$30.57 hourly ($58,198-$63,585 annually) Full Salary Range: $27.98-$36.51 Hourly ($58,198-$75,940 annually)

RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

Supervises: None

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Cleaning

Clean and sanitize restroom fixtures, floors, and apparatus.

Removal of solid waste and recycling from containers.

Provide floor maintenance with vacuums, mops, sweepers, scrubbers, polishers, and burnishers. This may include flooring surfaces disinfection, blood borne clean ups, and problem reporting.

Provide surface cleaning of walls, ceilings, fixtures, doors and hinges, windows and sills.

All common and public areas shall be cleaned as needed. City staff shall be responsible for cleaning of work desks and other personal areas.

Manage and maintain inventory of paper, cleaning products, janitorial machinery and equipment and other relevant janitorial stock.

Light Maintenance

Perform light maintenance on furniture, fixtures, and equipment associated with janitorial operations.

Perform maintenance procedures on cleaning equipment (such as changing belts, bags, filters, hoses, etc.).

Ensure restroom and kitchen dispensers including, but not limited to sinks, paper dispensers, refrigerators, and plumbing fixtures are operating efficiently.

Customer Service

Recognize and respond to customer service requests in a timely fashion.

Monitor facilities to ensure safe and sanitary operations.

Coordinate and assign event services as needed.

Coordinate custodial vendor services.

Assist City and guest-related event staff with housekeeping issues.

Daily communication with supervisor and city staff.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Grounds Maintenance

Refuse removal from outdoor containers.

Solid waste, recycling and organics dumpster/bin coordination.

Sidewalk and facility entry snow and ice maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of experience in custodial services or equivalent field.

Education: high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Ability to operate a personal computer, mobile phone, and typical office equipment

Ability to communicate with other staff, the public, tenants, and outside agencies with tact and effectiveness. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to prepare reports and communicate with the public and coworkers.

Must be able to work in a team environment with ability to set goals and prioritize work in a collaborative and engaged nature.

Must possess a valid driver’s license as this position will often need to drive a city vehicle to various facilities on a daily basis.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of experience in an institutional, educational, or government setting.

Certified in First Aid and/or CPR

Knowledge of municipal operating standards, public purchasing, and municipal policies.

Familiarity with emergency building procedures including evacuations, room identification, and hazardous material storage (fire, severe weather)

Knowledge of safety regulations, Blood Borne Pathogens, Employee Right to Know, PPE, and MSDS submittal process.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Perform general labor including frequently lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.

Work may routinely require the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.

Employee may be required to push/pull equipment and/materials as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS Most work is performed indoors. Occasionally, work will be required in extreme heat or cold, and may involve working in wet, muddy, slippery, wintery and/or windy conditions. Normal hours are 8:00am-4:30pm, but employees will need to be available for call-backs in case of an emergency.

Must pass criminal history background check, reference, and driver’s license checks.
